About

Wildfire Kennels Is a small hobby breeder in San Diego, California. This kennel had been in conception for years, but without nice females to breed, there is no breeding program! This dream of mine finally came to fruition in the winter of 2021 when we brought home our first Boston Terrier bitch, Maui. Wildfire Kennels continued to blossom when our long awaited Beauceron bitch, Nela, arrived in summer of 2022 all the way from an IGP focused kennel in the Czech Republic. Both exhibit exactly the traits we are looking for in foundation stock and we are so excited to see what they produce!

Temperament

Temperament is ultimately the number one thing that led me to fall in love with these incredible breeds! Thats why it is of the utmost importance to me that I preserve these temperaments we love so dearly. In my Bostons I strive to maintain that big, affectionate, life-of-the-party personality the breed is known for. In my Beaucerons my goal is to keep their infectiously goofy personality and deep handler involvement while taking drive and workability in the protection realm to the next level.

Health

Health will always be a Top Priority at Wildfire Kennels. Great health is essential to longevity in quality family pets and working dogs alike. I want a long, happy, healthy life for every single dog that comes from my kennel so I do diligent pedigree research and health testing on all breeding stock to set my puppies up for success. Official health testing results for each dog can be found on the pages I’ve made for them, but please feel free to inquire further!

Type

Imagine you’re in a big open field right at dusk and you see a dog out in the distance. Its too far and too dark for you to see any specific details, yet you know right away that dog is without a doubt a Beauceron; not a doberman, or a German Shepherd. That is type.  Preserving type means breeding for correct, functional structure and maintaining the physical aesthetic of a breed, which is important for me in my life and something I strive to accomplish in my kennel.

About the Breeder

Hi! My name is Amy. To say that I’ve always been an animal lover would be an understatement! My childhood in San Diego was spent  watching Animal Planet and studying dog breeds, all while snuggling my families Boston Terriers. In high school I became an active member of our Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter where my fascination for animal husbandry began! I quickly became a fiercely competitive livestock showman and started my own breeding program of show quality market and dairy goats. Unfortunately, due to my livestock living on school property, I knew come graduation I would need a new outlet for my competitive nature and animal obsession. I looked to purebred dogs!

This brought me to the sport of Mondioring and the Beauceron breed! The deeper I dove into these two the more I fell in love! Both so unique, eye-catching, and challenging. Shortly after joining my mondioring club I found the breeder of my first beauceron, Ozark. So far we have been able to achieve a Brevet (Pre-Entry level title) and Obedience/ Jumps only titles in Mondioring but, unfortunately, he’s just not the right dog for the job. This experience, while a bit disappointing, has made no change to how dearly I love Ozark, nor what a wonderful all around dog he is! It has, however, taught me so much about how many very specific GENETIC traits are needed of a protection sport dog AND how difficult it is to know those traits are present in a young puppy.

This led me to two things; 1) LOADS of pedigree and kennel research in hopes I would one day find my mondioring beauceron, and 2) my Belgian Malinois, Goose! Malinois, more often than any other breed, meet the needs for mondioring specifically, and I needed a dog to learn with. Together Goose and I have finished his MR1 title with near perfect scores, earned his MR2 Title with a 287.5/300 and 290.5/300, took 1st place at the 2023 USMRA National Championship, Competed in the 2023 FCI World Championship, and easily earned his MR3 title with not a single failed score on his trial record! For a full list of Mondioring scores I’ve achieved as a handler, click here.

In the years I spent training Goose and studying the working beauceron, I craved the company of a small and lower maintenance companion. I found myself missing the entertaining nature of the Boston Terriers I grew up with. Although, I spent many months researching other small breeds to be sure there wasn’t something better suited for me out there, time and time again I returned to the Boston Terrier. So we reached out to several breeders before finding the right one for us! Maui has brought so much joy, affection, and silliness to our lives, all while having no problem keeping up with the big dogs!  We can’t imagine having a home without a Boston in it!

I am so grateful for each of these incredible dogs and breeds in my life! Each one fulfills a special purpose and makes my heart whole. I’m so happy to have the opportunity to share this passion with others and work towards my goals of having a positive impact on these breeds!
